Repair, restore or replace

Sash & Case Windows Direct is the specialist window division of B&M Joiners. From our Canonmills workshop we repair original timber sashes, draught proof them so they stop leaking heat, and manufacture like-for-like replacements when the fabric is beyond economic repair. The right route depends on rot, distortion, conservation status and how the windows perform in winter, not on a catalogue photo.

Edinburgh tenements, New Town flats and Victorian villas share the same window type and very different conditions. A painted-shut stair window is a repair. A rotten cill on an otherwise sound case is a splice. A uPVC copy on a listed elevation is a compliance problem. We survey on site, write the scope, and only then cut timber.

How to choose a service

Start with repair and draught proofing when original pine is still dense and the sashes still slide, even if they rattle. Choose replacement when cases are twisted, rot is widespread, or you want A+ double glazing in a new timber sash that still matches the street. Secondary glazing sits on the room side when you cannot change the outside face. Listed building work follows those same routes, with drawings where consent needs them.

Every service is measured, made or overhauled in Edinburgh. We do not sell a generic casement and call it a sash. If you are unsure, the survey is free and the recommendation is written so you can compare cost against keeping the original timber.
