Preservation
Our timbers undergo a proprietary pressure treatment to extend their life, making them highly resistant to rot, decay and insects. This stabilises the wood, reducing moisture absorption and preventing the sweating and shrinking that open gaps and draughts.
Factory paint finish
Factory finishing outlasts site painting. The timber is coated under controlled humidity and temperature, then sealed with three layers of water-based microporous Sherwin-Williams paint or stain.
Strength
Smaller pieces of wood are layered with the grain running in different directions. That composite is stronger and more stable than a single solid section.
Sustainability
Engineered timbers use smaller pieces of wood from fast-growing, renewable, FSC-certified sources. Less waste, and a longer service life.
Stability
Cross-laid grain layers give minimal warping or movement. Sashes and doors keep sliding and closing as they should, year-round.
Consistency
More even grain, fewer knots and blemishes. Every window goes through quality-control checks before it leaves the workshop.
60+ year lifespan

Built as a composite, not a single board
Solid timber moves. Edinburgh weather makes that movement worse: wet winters swell the grain, dry summers shrink it, and the sash that slid in March sticks in August. Engineered timber layers smaller pieces with the grain running opposite ways, then bonds them. The stresses cancel. The sash stays true.
We then pressure-treat the timber against rot, decay and insects, and spray three coats of Sherwin-Williams paint in the factory. Measure, deliver, fit: one team, start to finish.
