With summer looming it’s fair to say that we’re well on the way into summer. If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably been ready for summer since the Christmas period ended. But what about your home?
Before you can really enjoy the warmer weather, there are a few improvements you should make within your home, just in time for the summer months.
Check Your Windows are in Working Order
During the colder months, a lot of people don’t open their windows at all. This means that when it comes to spring and summer, many discover problems that they didn’t even know about.
If you have sash windows, it’s essential to keep them maintained all year round. However, it’s easy to see how this can be forgotten during the winter. You should take time to check that all your windows still open as they should and that they don’t suddenly drop back down once you’ve let go of them. If it does do this, you’ll need to call out a specialist. They will be able to fix and restore your windows to full working glory.
Give Your Doors a Once Over Too
After you’ve finished checking all of your windows, it’s worth giving your doors a check over too. This definitely applies to your back door, as it’s likely that it’s not been used much in the winter months. You should check to make sure that the door isn’t sticking, and that the hinges and handles are all still in working order. It could be that you need to just apply a little bit of oil or sealant to get them working properly again.
Are the locks working as they should? Burglaries in summer are more common, due to the fact that people often have windows and doors open for an extended time. Don’t be caught out – double-check your locks and get them replaced if looking a little worn and torn. The same applies to the locks on your windows too!
Adjust the Timer on Your Central Heating
During the winter, having your central heating on a timer is the best thing ever. Getting up in the morning when it’s dark and cold, or arriving home from work when it’s dark and cold, can be horrible. Knowing you’re arriving home or getting up to a warm house makes it a little bit better.
However, come summer, there is absolutely no need to have your radiators on as much, if at all. Therefore you should adjust the timer on your central heating. This will save you a lot of money on your energy bills!
Last, of all, we suggest doing a huge spring clean! Nothing is better in summer than a clean and welcoming home!
