The Grange is one of Edinburgh's most desirable residential areas, characterised by its grand Victorian villas and tree-lined avenues. This substantial detached property had retained its original sash and case windows, but after more than 130 years, many had deteriorated beyond economic repair. The timber was severely affected by wet rot in several locations, and the single glazing provided very poor thermal and acoustic insulation.
Working within the strict requirements of Edinburgh's conservation area regulations, we designed and manufactured sixteen bespoke replacement sash and case windows. Each window was carefully measured and profiled to exactly replicate the originals, matching the glazing bar patterns, moulding profiles, and proportions that define the character of this Victorian villa.
We specified double glazed units throughout, which maintain the appearance of traditional single glazing while providing dramatically improved thermal performance.
The installation was managed in phases to minimise disruption to the family, with windows manufactured in our Canonmills workshop and installed by our experienced fitting team. From survey to final decoration, the entire project was completed in six weeks. The property now benefits from significantly reduced heating bills, excellent noise reduction from the busy nearby road, and windows that will last for generations to come.
